Staff will act as role models for students in being responsive and respectful in their dealings with even the most challenging students, exhibiting self-restraint, self-discipline and clear communication.

As a result, students will understand that their choices relate directly to consequences, both positive and negative. To facilitate this understanding, staff will actively build an atmosphere which promotes mutual trust and mutual success by:

  1. Providing a venue where students’ concerns may be addressed appropriately (class meetings, student council, individual appointments, etc.).
  2. Providing positive reinforcement.
  3. Affirming belief in the student's capacity to grow and succeed.
  4. Making a deliberate effort to listen and understand underlying causes of student behavior.
  5. Getting the facts first, when problems occur.
  6. Responding to insubordination calmly, firmly and fairly.
  7. Guiding students toward a positive resolution when a student displays a negative behavior.
