Sierra Renkert, a senior at Bethel University, is working toward her Elementary Education degree and is student teaching this year in Ms. Lidstone’s 2nd-grade classroom at PACT Charter School. With a background in leadership roles in Scouting and karate, Sierra’s passion for education is deeply rooted in her love for teaching and the strong sense of community that has supported her throughout her journey. Born and raised in Andover, Minnesota, she lives with her family and two beloved cats.
Sierra’s desire to give back to her community drives her commitment to becoming an educator. Reflecting on her experiences, she shares, "I have been in many leadership roles in Scouting and karate, which showed me how much I enjoy teaching others. I feel called to teach as a way to help people from the ground up." This desire to encourage and inspire others is at the heart of her teaching philosophy as she challenges young minds in the classroom.
At PACT, Sierra has found more than just a place to teach—she’s discovered a community that has welcomed and supported her every step of the way. Despite her struggles with mental health, it is the joy she feels in working with her students and seeing the impact she makes keeps her motivated and focused on her purpose. "I have not encountered many challenges here at PACT because of the incredible support system around me," Sierra says. "But if challenges arise, I am always reminded of the strength of our community."
One of Sierra’s most memorable moments at PACT came when her students asked her, "Ms. Renkert, when you graduate, can you work here and be my third-grade teacher?" This touching request reaffirmed her calling. "I love being someone the students feel connected to and someone they can learn from. Helping them pursue academic excellence while encouraging them to embrace who they are is incredibly rewarding," she explains. Her students look up to her, not just as a teacher but as someone they trust and admire.
Sierra's highlight of her time at PACT is the sense of belonging she feels within the school community. "If I were in any situation where I needed someone, I feel like I could ask anyone in the building, and they would help me," she says. With the encouragement of staff, parents, and students, Sierra is excited for what lies ahead. "I cannot wait to see the rest of the great things PACT has in store for me and our class!"
As Sierra prepares to graduate and pursue her dream of becoming an elementary school teacher, her experiences at PACT have only deepened her love for education. Her unwavering commitment to making a difference in students’ lives ensures a bright future in education, and PACT is proud to have been a part of her development as a teacher. Sierra is ready to take the next step in her journey!
