Sophia DeRosa ‘25, a standout PACT athlete, has officially signed to play college basketball at Central Lakes College, where she will also pursue a degree in Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement.
For DeRosa, this opportunity is more than just an athletic achievement—it's a chance to continue growing as a leader both on and off the court. “Signing to play at the college level means I get to keep pushing myself as an athlete while working toward my academic and career goals,” she shared. “This journey has challenged me in many ways and helped me become a stronger leader.”
Several factors influenced DeRosa’s decision to commit to Central Lakes. The close-knit campus community, supportive coaching staff, and welcoming team environment played key roles. “I wanted a school where I felt more than just another student, and Central Lakes gave me that feeling right away,” she said. “The coaches are invested in my success both as a student and an athlete, and after meeting the team, I knew it was the right place for me.”
Throughout high school, DeRosa has learned the importance of balance and developing a strong routine while leaning on a reliable support system. She credits her ability to ask for help when needed and staying disciplined in both academics and sports. “Being part of a team in college will help with that transition. The structure of being a student-athlete keeps me focused and accountable,” she explained.
DeRosa attributes much of her success to her coaches, teammates, and family members who have supported her. “My coaches and teammates have pushed me to be the best version of myself. They’ve taught me leadership, accountability, and the importance of setting an example for younger athletes,” she said.
With a passion for both sports and public service, DeRosa has big plans beyond the basketball court. After college, she aims to become a coach and mentor for young female athletes while pursuing a law enforcement career. “I want to make a positive impact—whether in my community through law enforcement or by helping young athletes grow in confidence and skill,” she shared.
As DeRosa prepares for this next chapter, she does so with gratitude for her past and excitement for what lies ahead. With a strong foundation and a determined mindset, she is ready to make her mark at Central Lakes as a student-athlete and future leader.
