Distance Learning Extended Into January

November 13, 2020

The case count for COVID-19 in Anoka County and surrounding counties has steadily increased. The state provided updated data on the 14-day case rate, and Anoka County is now at 75.9, which puts the recommendation for Elementary students in the distance learning model.

Our administration met with our regional support team again on November 11 to collaborate and obtain advice on our learning model. We were told that this increase in cases is likely to continue to rise, and our own tracking shows that the 14-day case rate for Anoka County is currently at 144. With that, we have ongoing concerns about adequately covering classrooms due to staff absences as we follow the Minnesota Department of Health COVID-19 Decision Tree.

We have made the difficult decision to continue with distance learning for both our elementary and secondary students through January 14, 2021.

Here is what you need to know:

  • There will be no school on Monday, November 30 for elementary students. Teachers will use that day to plan and gather materials for student pick-up.
  • We are planning to have a materials pick-up day for elementary on Tuesday, December 1. There will be more information, including a sign-up coming out next week.
  • Secondary students will still have school (distance learning) on Monday, November 30.
  • We hope to return to the hybrid model on January 20. If that is possible, there will be no school on January 19 and will instead be a day for teachers to plan for the transition back into the building.
  • Extracurricular activities will continue as we take precautions and monitor expectations from the state. While we are in the distance learning model, we will not have fans attend competitions.
  • Families who ordered school meals can pick them up each school day in the office between 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

We have been making decisions with limited positive options and are grateful for your trust in us to do what is right for our community. Please continue to reach out to us with questions.
