537 - Academic Eligibility Policy

PACT Charter School

Original Creation Date: November 2015
Last Approved By: PACT Charter School Board of Directors
Last Approved Date: April 2, 2020
Year Reviewed: 2019-2020

All students participating in extracurricular activities are required to meet all qualifications set forth by the PACT Charter School. In the event a student becomes ineligible, it is the student’s responsibility to bring their grade(s) up and prove eligibility. The teacher is not expected to correct, grade, or enter the scores on the day that late/make-up-work is handed in. This will be done at the teacher’s discretion.  A progress report from all affected classes is required.

GRADE CHECKS

Grade checks will be done once per month, with the initial grade check being the third Monday of the school year. Subsequent grade checks will take place on the first Monday of the month and/or at administration’s discretion. In addition, there will be a grade check for Drama during auditions.

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS for Elementary Students

Students need to have assignments completed and up-to-date. Students must be making adequate progress in all of their classes (i.e., no failing grades and no more than 2 Ds) as determined by the homeroom teacher.

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS for Secondary Students

Students will not be failing a class or have more than 2 Ds.

CONSEQUENCES OF INELIGIBILITY

  1. The penalty for the first ineligibility is that the student will not participate until they have raised their grade(s) to meet eligibility qualifications. The first ineligibility will result in missing the first contest after they are eligible. The second offense results in missing the next two contests. Third ineligibility disqualifies the student for the remainder of the season.
  2. The ineligible student should continue to attend a practice or After-School Assistance Program (ASAP) (working on assignments to raise eligibility) and attend home contests (on the bench in street clothes), but will not directly participate in either. They may not travel with the team/group for away contests or leave early with the team/group for any other reasons.
  3. In the event that a student does not meet the requirements and has an active Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or 504 Plan, the student’s case manager or 504 Coordinator must be involved in the determining of eligibility (i.e., the disability affects the student’s performance directly). If such circumstances arise, accommodations to the eligibility qualifications may be made.
  4. Students who become ineligible in Drama on the second or third-grade check may perform in the play but will not be eligible to participate in the next play.
