Secondary Early Release Form (for more than five days)

Directions: While leaving school before the end of the school day is discouraged, some situations may allow for it. Those may include medical conditions, extracurricular activities (including cooperative agreements with other schools), coursework, or no need for credit (juniors in PSEO and seniors only). Note: The Maximum Absence Policy still applies (see Family Handbook). Please find the situation that applies to you/your student, read the guidelines, and complete the attached application.

Medical Condition

A medical condition that requires ongoing time off of school must be accompanied by a letter from the licensed medical professional indicating the condition, restrictions, and justification for the time missed.

Non-PACT Charter School Sponsored Extracurricular Activities

Examples of extracurricular activities, which may allow for loss of school time, may include non-PACT-sponsored activities with outside organizations that end their school day earlier than PACT Charter School. If a student chooses to participate in these extracurricular activities and it requires that they miss more than ten days of a course (or significant portions of a course) for a semester, they may lose all credit for that course for the semester. PACT Charter School cannot accept responsibility for accommodating these absences. This includes any extra work being placed on the teachers. The responsibility for leaving school early for an extracurricular activity not sponsored by PACT Charter School remains solely on the student and their parent/guardian(s). If PACT is aware of the need ahead of time, we may be able to accommodate this request through scheduling.

PACT Charter School Sponsored Extracurricular Activities (i.e., Cooperative Sponsorships/Agreements with Other Schools)

On occasion, in order to accommodate student's extracurricular interests in areas not provided by PACT Charter School, our school may choose to develop a cooperative sponsorship/agreement with another school (through the MSHSL - see Extracurricular Handbook). If this agreement, sponsored by PACT Charter School, requires that a student leave school early, the following conditions would apply:

  1. The student must comply with the appeal process if more than ten days are missed in any given class. A minimum requirement of a "C” average and no failing courses must be met at the end of the semester to grant an appeal.
  2. PACT Charter School will attempt to accommodate the request by adjusting the scheduling of classes at the end of the day.
  3. An early notice must be given to the Guidance Counselor and Activities Director if a student is planning to participate in a cooperative sponsorship/agreement at any point during the upcoming school year. This should be done no later than June 1. Exceptions will be made for new students enrolling after June 1 but must be received by the end of the first week of the first semester.
  4. If the student is "on track" for graduation, a study hall may be considered ; credit is not given for study halls.

Early Release for a Student in PSEO or Senior with Sufficient Credits

Note: This option is ONLY available to juniors taking PSEO courses and seniors. To qualify, the student MUST meet the following criteria:

  • The student is "on track" for graduation (meaning he/she has earned all necessary credits and has passed all required state assessments).
  • The schedule can be accommodated to allow for the last hour to be a class that the student does not need for graduation. Note: No midday classes will be permitted in this policy.
  • Permission has been granted (by signing this form) by the parents for any student under 18 years of age.

Note: If all conditions are met and the student chooses to leave for the last period of the day, he/she has the following two options:

  1. The student may register for a study hall during that final period. The student would check in with the Independent Study Choice (ISC) Room monitor each day. If the student chooses to leave for the day, he/she would then inform the ISC monitor and check out in the school office.
  2. The student may choose not to register for any classes during the last period. He/she would then be required to check out at the office and leave the school building by the beginning of the last period.

If the above conditions are met, the student MUST complete the attached form and submit it to the School Guidance Counselor, who will then give a copy to the Assistant Director of Education and place another copy in the student’s cum file,  before implementation. Any student who chooses to leave school without acquiring proper permissions is considered truant and disciplinary actions will follow according to school policy.
