720 - Meal Purchasing Policy

PACT Charter School

Original Creation Date: April 1, 2014
Last Approved By: PACT Charter School Board of Directors
Last Approved Date: March 5, 2015
Year Reviewed: 2015-2016

“Meals” shall include any breakfast or lunch items purchased through PACT Charter School.

“Reimbursable Meals” are meals that contain all of the required nutritional components as established by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE).

“Alternative Meal” is a meal consisting of one serving of fruit, one serving of a vegetable, a protein, a grain (i.e. cheese sandwich on whole-grain bread) and one carton of milk.

PACT Charter School offers breakfast and lunch meals to all students and staff, in accordance with guidelines established by the USDA and MDE. Meals will be offered at an established price, a reduced price or at no charge, based on criteria established by MDE. Meals must be purchased through the approved online vendor. Orders will not be accepted after the established deadline.

PACT Charter School will, with the assistance of our food service vendor, create a menu of meals on a monthly basis, for purchase by students and staff. Menus are created and orders are placed for the next calendar month (e.g. the order in September for October school days).

 Meal offerings will include:

  • Breakfast option
  • Hot lunch meal
  • Cold lunch option (sandwich and/or salad)
  • Vegetarian option

Meals will be available on school days during the months of September through May annually.

PACT Charter School receives state and/or federal funds for reimbursable meals.

Orders for meals will be placed electronically through an online order and payment processing vendor selected by the Business office and approved by the School Board.

  1. Monthly menus will be posted electronically on the PACT website by the 10th of each month.
  2. The monthly menus will be uploaded to our order processing vendor. Families and staff will have a window, beginning on the 10th of the month and ending on the 20th of the month, in which to complete their electronic meal orders.
    • If the last day of the order window falls on a Friday, the window will be extended through 11:00 pm central time on Sunday evening.
  3. If students/families or staff miss or unable to complete their orders by the established order deadline, they will be unable to order meals until the following month.
    • If a student fails to order a meal or fails to bring a meal to school with them, PACT will offer that student an alternative meal and charge the student based on the following scale:
      1. Denied Status = Full costs of the alternative meal as established by the Business Office at the beginning of the school year.
      2. Free/Reduced Status = No charge per alternative meal.

--All students at PACT will be offered a meal, regardless of the ability to pay--

  1. Applying for Free/Reduced Status
    • If a family is interested in applying for free/reduced status, they may pick up an application at the front desk during normal office hours. Applications should be turned into the Business Office.
