PACT Compact for Learning

This compact outlines how parents/guardians, the entire school staff, and students will share the responsibility for student academic achievement and how the school and parents/guardians will build and develop a partnership to help children achieve their educational goals.

PACT Charter School recognizes that this is a shared responsibility and the strength of this partnership will impact student achievement and success.

The PACT Charter School Board of Directors encourages and fosters mutual responsibility for children's learning. They take the initiative to develop family-school partnerships. By working together, exchanging information, sharing decision making, and collaborating in children's learning, parents, students, and staff can contribute to the educational process and students’ success. As a school community, PACT Charter School supports "family-school compacts" and affirms the importance of family involvement in students' learning.

We commit to including parents and families in the daily life of the school by:

  • Providing resources for families to help children succeed in school and for school staff to work with families.
  • Encouraging family involvement by reviewing progress regularly and strengthening cooperative efforts.
  • Sharing responsibility at school and at home to give students the best education and a positive start in life.

OUR SCHOOL will be welcoming to parents/guardians, offer challenging courses, create safe and drug-free learning environments, including parents/guardians in school site decisions, and organize opportunities for parents/guardians to help improve student learning.

OUR PARENTS/GUARDIANS will monitor student attendance, homework completion and the use of free time, become acquainted with teachers and administration, and become involved at school (which can be done in a variety of ways by volunteering in school-day and after-school activities, and may include participating in school decision-making committees).

OUR STUDENTS will actively commit to respect themselves, staff, others, and their environment and fulfill their responsibilities in homework completion, class involvement, and time management while working to develop the character qualities that our school promotes.

PACT Charter School is committed to supporting partnerships through:

Providing high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and safe learning environment that enables our students to meet the required student academic achievement standards. PACT Charter School will communicate about curriculum, instruction, assessment, school programs, and student progress through timely and effective communication methods. PACT Charter School will routinely review student academic achievement and make data-driven decisions about the curriculum and instruction.

Holding parent/guardian-teacher conferences.

  • Fall: Student-led, goal setting conference
  • Winter: Progress of academic achievement
  • Spring: Student-led, review of progress and goals set at Fall conferences

At each of these conferences, parents/guardians, students, and teachers review the student’s academic achievements and opportunities and partner to set realistic goals for the student. Student-led conferences provide an avenue for students to take responsibility for their work and efforts throughout the year. Students, parents/guardians, and teachers work closely together to ensure that students are progressing sufficiently. The goal is to have 100% parent/guardian and student participation in conferences.

Providing parents/guardians with frequent reports on their children’s progress.

Parents/guardians have many tools to access their children’s progress.

These may include:

  • Access to online progress reports
  • Communication through email
  • Progress Reports and Report Cards
  • Regular Communication to parents from Homeroom Teachers/Advisors

Providing parents/guardians reasonable access to staff. Specifically, staff will be available for consultation with parents as follows:

  • Parents/Guardians are encouraged to speak directly with staff.
  • Parents/Guardians can schedule times to meet with the staff.
  • PACT Charter School also has individual phone extensions for the staff so that parents can leave a message.
  • Parents/guardians are encouraged to attend conferences.

Providing parents/guardians with opportunities to volunteer and participate in their student’s class, and to observe classroom activities.

PACT Charter School recognizes and appreciates the value of parents wanting to be actively involved in the education of their child(ren). We provide nursery care for volunteers while they are serving the school during school days as well as during Thursday evening meetings to help make parent/guardian involvement more convenient. Volunteering opportunities include, but are not limited to:

  • Serving on decision-making committees
  • Serving as a Teacher’s Assistant (TA) in the classroom
  • Helping in the school office
  • Coordinating/helping with extracurricular events
  • Fundraising projects
  • Grant writing
  • Serving lunch
  • Chaperoning field trips
  • By providing Thursday evening meeting times and nursery care throughout the school day and during meetings, we are also making this involvement convenient for parents.

Volunteering opportunities are communicated to the staff, parents, and community using a variety of tools, including the school newsletter, phone calls, school website and by personal communication from the Volunteer Coordinator.
