PURPOSE
The purpose of this policy is for PACT Charter School to establish general parameters for determining the workload limits of support services staff who provide services to children and youth with disabilities receiving direct special education services 60 percent or less of the instructional day.
POLICY STATEMENT
- Workload limits for PACT support services teachers shall be determined by the Lead of Support Services, in consultation with the Assistant Director of Education and a Principal.
- In determining workload limits for support services staff, PACT Charter School shall take into consideration the following factors: student contact minutes, evaluation and reevaluation time, indirect services, management of IEPs, travel time, and other services required in the IEPs of eligible students.
DEFINITIONS
- Support Services Staff and Teachers: “Support services staff” and “support services teacher” both mean a teacher employed by the school district who is licensed under the rules of the Minnesota Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board to instruct children and youth with specific disabling conditions.
- Direct Services: "Direct services" means special education services provided by a support services teacher when the services are related to instruction, including cooperative teaching.
- Indirect Services: "Indirect services" means support services provided by a support services teacher which include ongoing progress reviews; cooperative planning; consultation; demonstration teaching; modification and adaptation of the environment, curriculum, materials, or equipment; and direct contact with children and youth with disabilities to monitor and observe.
- Workload: "Workload" means a support services teacher’s total number of minutes required for all due process responsibilities including direct and indirect services, evaluation and reevaluation time, management of Individual Education Program (IEP) plans, travel time, parental contact, and other services required in the IEPs.
