Extracurricular Activities
At PACT, extracurricular activities are integral to the school experience. We provide these opportunities as a commitment to a quality, well-rounded education that mentally and physically challenges students. We offer coaches who build young men and women of character in the classroom, court, and field.
We are proud of our students' abilities across more than 30 sports and organizations. More than 500 students participate each year, and we are committed to offering as many opportunities for our students as possible. In some cases, we have built cooperative agreements with local schools so our students can benefit from various sports a small school can’t offer -- things like gymnastics and hockey!
Get involved and take advantage of everything PACT has to offer.

The Details
Student Participation
- Any student not in attendance for at least half a school day (four full class periods) may not participate in extracurricular activities that day (including practices).
- Any student who receives an out-of-school suspension for any length of time may not participate in (or attend) extracurricular activities while they are suspended. They must also miss one contest after they have returned to school.
- Any student who receives an in-school suspension may practice, but they must miss one full half of the next contest.
- Any student who is absent due to religious activity, family emergency, or traumatic event (i.e., funeral) may participate in a contest that day.
- Uniforms will be issued to each team athlete at the beginning of the season.
- A $100 deposit check (made out to PACT Charter School) is required and will be returned at the end of the season when the uniform is returned to the activity leader.
- The $100 deposit will be forfeited if the student does not return a cleaned uniform to the activity leader within two weeks after the last contest.
- Uniforms must be turned into the direct activities leader ONLY (i.e., JV uniforms to the JV coach).
- Tryouts will be held at the beginning of each varsity and JV sports season, with the possibility of a student not getting placed on a team. This decision will be at the discretion of the respective coach.
- Team placement decisions will be made no later than the end of the first week of the regular season. Before the fourth Monday of the season, provisions may be made for extenuating circumstances allowing students to try out.
- If your student is participating in a PACT-approved co-op, please complete this form each year so we can track their progress and make sure they get recognized: https://forms.gle/vs3q8BzVahum1bGEA
Activity Fees
- The fees/payments for an activity must be received before the first practice session or activity date. Fees are based on the participant's team assignment, not grade level.
- All fees should be paid to PACT Charter School. Fees are non-refundable after two weeks of an activity or sport. Refunds are issued up to two weeks, or until the first contest played unless there is a medical issue. The exception to this policy is for dance. This refund will be minus the cost of the uniform that has been ordered.
- Payment plans may be available. Contact the Business Office for information.
- If a student wishes to participate in a sport that PACT does not offer, a cooperative agreement must be formed with another school. The families participating in this cooperative agreement are responsible for initiating the process through administration and communication, as requested, with the participating school. PACT also needs assurances that any classes missed due to participation will fall within PACT guidelines in order to attain credit for classes.
Transportation
- PACT Charter School will make best efforts to provide transportation to/from all away events, and if necessary, to any off-site practices or home events.
- Students MUST ride the bus when returning home from an away contest unless the activity leader/coach receives a signed permission slip form before leaving the school. This form allows a student to ride home with a parent or sibling. Students will not be allowed to ride home from contests with non-family members unless it is an emergency. Electronic communication to the activity leader/coach 24 hours before departure may be substituted for a permission form. Decline Transportation Form
- Students may not, under any circumstances, transport other students (except for a sibling) from one school event to another.
- When traveling to/from events, students will be required to sit separately according to gender.
- If a student must be transported by a staff member in a personal vehicle, a parent will be contacted for permission prior to or have signed a waiver permitting this transport. If a parent cannot be reached for permission, the student will remain at PACT and need to be picked up.
- Advisors/Coaches are responsible for students participating in the activity until they are picked up; please be respectful of their time. Parents will be contacted if late pick-up becomes a problem.
- If a problem of late pick-up persists after parents are contacted, it may be necessary for that student to be dropped from the activity.
Awards and Lettering
- Athletes must attend 90% of the scheduled practices.
- Athletes must have played in 75% of the available varsity periods (quarters, halves, or games, depending on the sport).
- Athletes must not have violated any of the Minnesota State High School League rules.
- Athletes must not have been found academically ineligible twice during the season.
- Athletes must finish the season as a member of the team.
- Team requirements
- A coach can make an exception to the lettering requirements with the approval of the activities director.

Eligibility
- Students are to abide by the rules and policies that are in effect while attending school and/or school-related functions (See PACT Family Handbook regarding rules for expected behavior and discipline guidelines). Code of Conduct
- Any student who is asked to leave an extracurricular activity for disciplinary reasons shall not be eligible to compete or participate in another activity for that particular season, trimester, or semester. Any activity fees collected are non-refundable.
- Advisors/Coaches will notify the administrator of violations of the rules. Consequences may include suspension from the team, activity, or school for a period of time.
- Suspensions will follow MSHSL guidelines where necessary.
If a student is caught using any substance defined as illegal by the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL), the following penalties will be enforced (all other PACT Charter School policies will also be in effect).
- First Violation Penalty: The student shall lose eligibility for the next two consecutive interscholastic contests or two weeks (14 calendar days), whichever is greater, of a season in which the student is a participant.
- Second Violation Penalty: The student shall lose eligibility for the next six consecutive interscholastic contests or three weeks (21 calendar days), whichever is greater, in which the student is a participant.
For 1st and 2nd offenses, the student must attend practice during the suspension but may not practice, they may attend home games and sit on the bench in non-uniform clothes, and they may not travel with the team to away games.
- Third or Subsequent Violation Penalty:
- The student shall lose eligibility for the next 12 consecutive interscholastic contests or four weeks (28 calendar days), whichever is greater, in which the student is a participant.
- A student who chooses to become a participant in a treatment program may become eligible for participation after a minimum period of six weeks after entering treatment if all of the following conditions are met:
- The student is assessed as chemically dependent, enters treatment voluntarily, and the director of the treatment center certifies that the student has successfully completed the treatment program. The treatment option cannot be used for the first or second violation.
- Successful completion of a chemical dependency treatment program will satisfy only the most recent violation. Any other violations for which the penalty has not been satisfied must still be served in full.
Grade checks are the first Monday of the month for all students involved in PACT-sponsored activities.
Students found to be ineligible will not participate until they have raised their grade(s) to meet eligibility qualifications. The first ineligibility will result in missing the first contest after they are eligible. The second offense results in missing the next two contests. A third ineligibility disqualifies the student for the remainder of the season.
All students participating in extracurricular activities must meet all qualifications set forth by PACT Charter School. If students become ineligible, they must bring their grade(s) up and prove eligibility. The teacher is not expected to correct, grade, or enter the scores on the day that late/make-up work is handed in. This will be done at the teacher’s discretion. A progress report from all affected classes is required.
- Students participating in extracurricular activities that cause them to miss any or all of the school day are responsible for gathering, completing, and turning in any assignments they will miss while gone from class.
- Assignments include, but are not limited to, daily homework, tests, quizzes, projects, etc.
- Assignments are to be turned in prior to the classes missed unless pre-approved by the teacher of a particular class.
- Teachers may hold students accountable for missed assignments with sufficient advance notice in which the student could have completed the assignment.
- Apply to all high school activities, pending approval on a case-by-case basis.
- Non-enrolled students (i.e., homeschooled students) in PACT may be afforded the opportunity to participate in PACT-sponsored activities if their present school does not offer that activity; and they do not currently have a cooperative agreement with another school in that activity (see the MSHSL homeschool participation policy). This inclusion will be pending conference approval and be looked at by individual cases.
Facility Use
- Out of respect for both the custodial staff and school body, please take care of the facilities while using them.
- Please make sure the area you use is clean and returned to its original condition when you are finished (i.e., make sure desks, tables, and/or chairs are arranged the way you found them). This is also helpful to teachers/staff who use that area daily.
- During any activity, advisors/coaches should have the parent contact phone numbers for participants. In case of an emergency, parents will be contacted immediately.
- Advisors/Coaches should be sure parents have a way to contact them in the event of an emergency.
- For security reasons, the school building is locked after hours so a parent who needs to get into the building will need to inform or contact the coach.
- Practices must be supervised by an adult approved by the administration or a school staff member.
- Lockers are provided for students involved in sports and it is the students’ responsibility to ensure that the locker rooms are kept clean and orderly.
- Locker room behavior must conform to PACT Charter Schools Expected Behavior Policy and Harassment, Violence & Discrimination Policy.
- The use of any device(s) capable of capturing images IS NOT permitted in the locker room. This could include suspension from the activity in which they are participating (or other consequences as detailed in the PACT Family Handbook).
School Spirit
Go Panthers Go!
Stand up and cheer, the Panthers are here.
Red, black and white, we'll fight, fight, fight!
P-A-C-T Panthers are we. We are a noble pride.
We will fight for eternity. Our strength we cannot hide.
Prowling and growling, that is what we do.
Never give up, we'll see it through
From start to end our pride will never bend.
Go, Panthers, go!
Go, Panthers, go!
